We were dark last week so I did a corporate and one of the presenters was an executive VP from Harrah's. As I was laving him up and making small talk, I asked if he was going to surprise us with an announcement of when they were going to implode that part of the Strip and in town in general. I don't think he's convered with any A2s about the LV business climate and was curious as to how I knew about it, and why I was interested in the first place. Of course he couldn't say anything about that project specifically but we a a nice little chat about what's been happening on the Strip. The Harrah's makeover has been the buzz around town and it was thought that they might trade the Rio in whole for the Barbary Coast property.

The word on the street about that part of the Strip is that only Imperieal Palace will be imploded and Harrah's, Ballys and the Flamingo will facelifted in a "pardon our dust" sort of state as the thinking is they won't be able to take the cash flow hit for the year or two it would take to do the revamp. Plus losing that many rooms in town would drive demand up and the competitors would reap the benefits of the price increase while Harrah's had three large properties undergoing renovation.

I read today that Harrah's finally got The Barbary Coast, so I guess a Flamingo implosion is in the cards. It's about time. I also read Harrah's may be bought be two private equity firms for $15B. That might mean a lot of changes on the strip.

<a href="http://money.aol.com/news/articles/_a/harrahs-gets-15-billion-buyout-offer/n20061002065709990005" rel="nofollow">http://money.aol.com/news/articles/_a/harrahs-gets-15-billion-buyout-offer/n20061002065709990005</a>

Glad you're OK. I've been on BP meds for a few years myself, no adverse reactions though. You reach a point in life where you actually have to pay attention to the docs. I guess we're there.

It was on the marquee across the street this weekend. Didn't know he was still gigging. Apparently he's there a couple times a year. Don't know where he's going to go once they tear it down, prolly Orleans or one of the other Boyd's. Big resort complex going in on Stardust site, our folks are expanding this place next door with another high end property and the New Frontier is coming down to make way for a jazz themed resort called Montreux and Circus Circus is due for an upgrade and every month new rumors of the Sahara and Riviera being toppled and new places there. That hunk of Strip north of is gonna look a wee bit different in a couple of years.

Hey John. Yep, it's Midnight Madness, everything from mini vans and tuner cars to muscle cars. The assistant head and I are race fans and he runs a nitrous (soon to me supercharged) Mustang.

Hi Dave,
I chanced upon your blog when I googled the term 'backline guys', which I was trying to work out the definition of. I love the way you write - it makes me feel like I'm right there with you! I've always admired roadies - my first job when I left school was as a stagehand in theatre so I always felt an affinity with them, somehow.
All the best,
Ruby,
London

Yeah Tom, that other crew has had a reputation for years. Oh well... No AES this year unfortunately, didn't want to take the time off being the new guy. I am doing ETS, it's on the way to work. As for the social life thing, it helps being in the same city consitently and being able to speak the language, more or less. I don't know that I would want to blog about the Vegas dating scene, think Carrie Bradshaw except no Manolos and a husky, long haired middle aged production show roadie. It's actually more like Samantha. Everyone tells me that it's hard to meet Ms Right in Sin City although meeting Ms. Rightnow isn't too difficult here.
