Yup, I read how it talked about the good side of EVDO. The end result it suggests is in the title, "EVDO Doesn't". It should state, "Verizon didn't rollout EVDO with enough capacity but Sprint did."

The impression the article leaves is that EVDO is a nice technology but that there are restrictions. Only Verizon has restrictions. You can download iTunes and stream radio on Sprint. The article does not give any indication of that.

Did you bother to read the post xeno? The technology is fine, not superb but certainly good enough to use. It's the TOS from Verizon and pricing from all bundled mobile providers that's the problem. I spend perhaps half of my work time in any given year overseas and one of the reasons the US is so far behind in mobile phone and networking technology is due to exactly this sort of thing.

You are bashing EVDO because of Verizon's TOS. Sprint doesn't have those restrictions because they have far more bandwidth available. Sprint also has about equal coverage...

- Verizon has 140 million covered now (150M soon)
- Sprint had 130 million mid-Nov (150M soon)

Nice rant, and great commentary on the over the top TOS from Verizon. What's the point in offering internet service that you can't use like an internet service? When people think of broadband, they're not thinking, "Yippie, I can download my email faster now!"

One of my colleagues took a look at a little trick Sprint is doing with their EVDO network to save on bandwidth while limiting the quality of images that you may find interesting:

<a href="http://www.technologyevangelist.com/2005/12/tell_sprints_evdo_service_to_n.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.technologyevangelist.com/2005/12/tell_sprints_evdo_service_to_n.html</a>

A different approach to the same issue Verizon is looking at.
