About A Barking Dog

Wednesday, March 31st, 2004

A Barking Dog is written by Dave Stevens. Dave is a veteran entertainment technology professional with more than two decades experience specializing in high performance sound reinforcement. Dave has many worldwide touring credits specializing in onstage monitor mixing, particularly personal ear monitor systems. Dave also tours as a systems technician and crew chief in addition to mixing front of house. Sound company work experience includes six years at Carlson Audio Systems in Seattle, (and still a member of the Carlson team) five years at PPA Inc in Southern California and four and a half years as the Systems Manager at Proshow USA, Seattle. Dave is currently consulting and working on select tours. Contact Dave at dstevens at roaddog dot com.

Specializing in large scale sound reinforcement, Dave is a pioneer and proponent of intelligent sound systems. This experience includes tours with commercially available sound system control protocols, QSControl II, the late Lone Wolf VNOS and Crown IQ. Stevens was at one time a Crown IQ Certified technician. Dave has also contributed to major trade industry publications, including Mix, Live Sound International, and Pro Sound News.

Late 1994 Dave started one of the first mailing lists dedicated to pro audio, the live-audio mailing list. Mid 1995 the list was moved to a Web based forum and for the better part of the next ten years was considered the premier pro audio community on the Internet. Dave was also a principal and directed the operation of one of the pioneering pro audio Internet retailers.

In the Fall of 2000, Dave and Ken Berger (co founder of Eastern Acoustic Works) formed ProSoundWeb, to build the worlds largest pro audio Internet services company and portal. In January 2003 the ProsoundWeb assets were aquired by Huge Universe, Inc. Dave served from time to time as a consultant and moderator of the live-audio_Board (or LAB as it is now called) until the spring of 2005. Dave is currently working on the next generation of entertainment technology communities and other technologies in the realm of pro audio and touring.
